- Bio: Imagine being 47 years old & waking up every morning & being so disgusted with your reflection in the mirror that you either cry or throw up. That was me in June 2006. I decided that I could not go through life that way so I decided July 1, 2006 to change my life. There was no going back!
I started eating right & boxing & weight training to take off weight. After 14 months I lost 80 pounds, going from 201 to 121. The magazine "Clean Eating" did a story on me in the September/October 2009 issue. I was honored. My husband of now 32 years (11/79) lost 50 pounds & enjoyed his own transformation. "Clean Eating" published one of his recipes! Family support is a wonderful thing!
I am now 53 & in the best shape of my life. I have kept the weight off for 4 years, except for muscle gains. I am a paleo-eater & I love the paleo lifestyle. My favorite exercises are 1 arm decline pushups & tire flipping. I started Crossfit in February 2011.
My 2011 holds these milestones:
*January won the women's division of my first powerlifting competition-deadlift 215, bench press 95.
*March completed the Warrior Dash & won a Tshirt from the US Marines for holding the first reverse grip pull up (pre-race) for 76 seconds & the second pullup (post-race) for 86 seconds
*March won a bronze medal for placing 3rd for women in my age group in a 5K
*May 7 MetroDash came in 2nd for women in my age group
*June 18 Powerlifting meet- deadlift 220, bench press 105
*July 4 most improved abs in Gymga abs challenge- we were all winners!
*August 12 turn 53
*September 24 Beach Palooza
* October 11 Win Gymga Pullup Challenge- started with 1 pullup on 7/11-finished with 5 pullups on October 11
*October 29 -5th Mountain Navy Seal Training Event- Atomic CrossFit--finished 1:41:33
*November 12- CrossFit Competition Atomic CrossFit- didn't quit. Did all the skills in the 3 WODs but lower & slower. Glad I went.
*October 17-December 17 Gymga Pushup Challenge-started with 48 on 10/17, ended with 60 on 12/17
Expected for 2012:
*January 15-15, 2012 pullup challenge- started with 3
*January 14, 2012 BONA FItness powerlifting competition (supporting programs to end childhood obesity) deadlift 230; 1st place masters women
*January 28, 2012 Tough Mudder Gulf Coast-finished!
*February 22- March-- Crossfit Open for Atomic
*March 31 7:00 am Charity 5K run (childhood obesity) BONA Fitness
*March 31 11:30 Mudder Dash charity mud run (Houston area volunteer firefighters)
*May 28- Memorial Day Murph at Atomic CrossFit
* August 12 turn 54
I hope I never forget the important events like being able to put my wedding ring back on or realizing I could no longer shop in the same stores.
